Release of “Zona Sul”, second single from the album Ultramarino

The song “Zona Sul” portrays in melody, harmony and lyrics the feminine and exuberant sinuosity of the Rio de Janeiro landscape, thus capturing the coastal experience of living in a city intertwined in the embrace between sea and mountain. But this “female landscape” mirrors and evokes another, more intimate one: the figure of the woman at the moment of the love act; expressed in brightness, sounds, curves, heat, and waves of unique intensity.

Zona Sul is presented in a smooth and syncopated movement and has the guitar as the lead. The arrangement remits to chamber music and features Jed Barahal’s cello in solo and backing, with Glenn Patscha’s oneiric keyboards. The precise and lean rhythmic basis is guided by Rolando Semedo, on bass and Chris Wells, on drums.

Zona Sul is part of the group of the most “carioca” songs from the new album Ultramarino, and refers directly to Tom Jobim’s bossa nova and the slow sambas, musical base for Fred Martins.

Released simultaneously by Biscoito Fino and the European label Alfa Music.

Single available on all music platforms on April 2, 2021 – pre-save at linktr.ee/fredmartins.
